Intro to Web Development

Feedback From Actual Students

This was by far my favorite class, well explained, homework and projects were relevant to class as well as the final.

I liked the atmosphere that was provided by the instructor, and that I was actually able to learn something in a fun way. I also liked that what I have learned, I can take and immediately use in the real world.

The sheer amount of practical material covered in this class was awesome. The project is a great idea, if not somewhat challenging.

The web security was very interesting and fun. I thought the class did a good job in showing how all the pieces in web development fit together.

I loved the relaxed nature which promoted discussion and a friendly environment. Also, the live examples were awesome and way better than hand waving.

I really liked all the freedom we had with our websites. I can say this was the funnest class I’ve taken.

I liked everything. I am not kissing up but you did one hella of a job. Made the class very enjoyable. I have taken a few web programming courses in my day, and this was by far the best.

I liked the atmosphere! Less pressure = more learning! Also, the speed was perfect!

I thought it was well taught, informative, and challenging without being overwhelming.

The real-world application felt legitimately useful. (Not to bash on theory courses.)

The class was paced perfectly. The teacher rocked and the atmosphere was easy to learn in. I enjoyed being able to make jokes while learning.

The professor brought in industry experts for lectures on special topics. I liked hearing different perspectives, especially the one on web frameworks.

It was fun learning in the class because every concept was applied in our own way soon after learning.

I learned how to make a website from scratch, as well as other tools to use in web programming in the future.

The way the course was organized was very impressive. It goes from the basics all the way to the high level frameworks. The homework’s gave me hands-on experience, which I found very useful.

Lectures are always fun, but filled with useful content. Everything he covers is immediately applicable in the real world which is great and he has some awesome live examples which make learning web dev easier.

Conrad knows Web Development so well that he was able to clearly explain all of the concepts. He is unlike any professor that I have had. He starts from ground 0, assuming you know nothing. He then builds up the conceps so that you fully understand it. Conrad had the fairest tests and quizzes of any professor in the university. They were of medium difficulty, the questions weren't too bad if you attended and paid attention in class. The use of guest speakers who were experts on a topic was great as well.

The teacher, by far, was the most valuable asset to this class. He is amazing and very knowledgeable in this field. He made class fun and engaging. He always answers questions thoroughly. This material was difficult, but he made learning it very easy.

The semester long project, the website, was very useful. It took all of the concepts we learned in class, and applied them in a way that we chose. I had a ton of fun with this class! Conrad is a great professor and very approachable.

Best CS class I've taken. Conrad was always prepared and willing to answer questions.

I really enjoyed learning about website development and the intricacies behind it. Conrad was an amazing teacher and his class was the funnest CS class I've taken.

Learning how to develop for the web paradigm is so important for CS students. The cumulative semester-long project was a lot of work but it was an awesome experience to see a site grow from a wireframe model to a fully implemented web application. The topics are paced well over the course of the semester to allow us to implement our project in stages. The lectures on jQuery and frameworks prepared us to use these more advanced tools after school. Conrad is fantastic. His industry experience is a huge plus and he made the lectures really interesting by emphasizing the topics he felt would best serve us moving forward with our education. I found during the course of the semester that I was encountering topics in my other classes that were introduced in webdev. This cross class experience is a huge boon for my education, in my opinion.

I really enjoyed the guest lectures and easter egg hunt in the class website.

Conrad is very knowledgeable about this topic and he is great at showing examples of how to do things. He is willing to work with you inside and outside of class.

I really enjoyed the security and jQuery topics discuessed in class.

JavaScript, jQuery, PHP, Ajax, security and all concepts covered in the class are really very much helpful.

Having one large project was a lot more fun and educational. You get to take pride in your work.

Taught by an up to date developer who works in the field daily. Great Textbook for 95% of the course

I think your class is the most applicable and valuable for every CS student.

Mr. Kennington was prompt and energetic during class time. His explanations were easy to understand.

Even though PHP is the C of web programming, I thought that Conrad did an excellent job in forcing us to learn the underlying concepts behind web dev. The ones that frameworks obscure a great deal of.

The professor did a good job of explaining the proper way to develop websites, and why this is important. His examples were helpful to demonstrate how to think in a new language for most students in the class. The book was also very approachable and instructive.

His website with examples were really helpful especially when working on the project. He was really friendly and would show his sense of humor to lighten up the class.

Instructor's enthusiasm was great, definitely knowledgable and willing to explore ideas and questions students had in class.

He loves what he does in web development! He definitely fosters a fun learning enviromnent which makes class exciting so I'm much more willing to learn. He did a great job at explaining material... Biggest take away I'd say he teaches the students the material they need to know - not what a manual says is important. There was no days I felt like were a waste of time.

Note: I only posted postive feedback. There were a few naysaying comments that I would have posted, but I ran out of room.
They mostly said, "This class was terrible because it wasn't long enough" and "This class made me depressed because now it's over." That sort of stuff.
